Cambridge to Host NDP Leadership Candidates’ Forum

The race to succeed Jack Layton will heat up in Cambridge on Dec. 1 as some perceived front-runners are confirmed to speak at the NDP Leadership Candidates’ forum sponsored by the Cambridge NDP.

National NDP president Brian Topp and Toronto MP Peggy Nash will be joined by Quebec MP Romeo Saganash and Nova Scotia pharmacist Martin Singh as they address local party members at the Preston Arena Banquet Hall at 7:30 pm. Candidates are looking for support leading up to the leadership vote on March 24, when party members will select the new leader in a One Member One Vote election with the winner being announced at the Leadership Convention in Toronto.

The candidates are among nine registered to contest the leadership of Canada’s NDP, following the untimely death of Jack Layton in August. Other leadership candidates may also appear as all nine have been invited to the Cambridge event. The other candidates are: Deputy Leader Thomas Mulcair, Ottawa MP Paul Dewar, BC MP Nathan Cullen, Nova Scotia MP Robert Chisholm, and Manitoba MP Niki Ashton.
This leadership contest marks the first time in the party’s history when the newly elected leader becomes Leader of the Official Opposition and is one step from becoming Prime Minister of Canada.

It will be interesting to see who they elect to promote Quebec grievances…and when will the party name change to the NPDQ be happening?

Were not worthy of this. I know everybody gets excited that the clowns, oops sorry I mean politicians are coming but in this day and age would it not make more sense to do this electronically?

  4. John November 25, 2011 at 5:46 pm

Blair: If you where one to do something like this “electronically”, you’d think you would have the scene to use a backspace/delete key rather then typing “opps”

But to be polite… for your generation maybe this will work, but not everyone knows how to email, youtube, facebook, or even use the internet.

    @ John
Ticks me off when people get critical of others computer skills but can’t read or spell. Blair’s text is oops not opps and a long shot guess that your word “scene” is possibly “sense”. And for us old geezers who still write with pencils what the aitch is “backspace/delete”?
Some smart computer geek should invent a pop-up check box that asks if you have proofread your text before the computer will allow you to use the “SEND” button.
Ahhhhhhhhh…..feel better now. Time to activate the ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ’s

Sorry to Disappoint you John but I am 58 so I do not know what you are referring to by “for your generation maybe this will work”, I think I am of the Generation that actually votes, so perhaps that is what the NDP does not want. And Curmudgeon, I agree it is time to activate the ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ’s

Blair, the Curmudgeonly One,Les et al…Plse note that I have patented the use of multiple zzz’s, on this site,to show my ennui with a monotonous thread. Plse call or e-mail to ask permission to employ my less than epic wit.

You created a monster Hags, now live with it!

While they are screwing their bobble heads on the Bobble Rae’s Liberals are becoming the opposition. Thus for now the NFPQ have been neutered. Still as good people we will take their socialist cash in Tucciville. Oops missed back space should read Leoneville. As to NFPQ getting a Prime Minister position ha ha what a stretch never happen even in what is left of my lifetime.

    Jimm..re monster..you mean Scot, I presume?

  11. Jimm Hillis November 26, 2011 at 5:13 pm

Yea, that will work as well!

So NDP members do not know how to use the Internet? Just how much money will a convention like this cost and how much will it bring into the community are really the questions we need to know, because if it is going to cost us money and not be beneficial to anyone outside of the party than what is the purpose, just to elect the third place finisher again? The jack Era is done and they will go back to irrelevance once again.

  13. Jimm Hillis November 27, 2011 at 3:11 pm

Guy’s, this isn’t the convention this is just a forum for the candidates to get out and meet the ones that will be voting in March. But Gloria I agree with you, in 4 years they will be battling to stay ahead of the Fiberals for second place.

Gloria, this is a party campaign issue. Thankfully our tax dollars don’t go towards helping leadership candidates get elected (if they are, the gov. and the NDP candidates have some ‘splainin’ to do). Maybe this forum will bring a few visitors to our fair city, who may partake of local business offerings and/or view our beautiful city for the first time. This forum can’t hurt Cambridge, at all.Whether it helps us at all, is another issue.

Due to assumed patent rights by a local Bard I am now forced to use zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz as it does not infringe upon the use of ZZZZZZZZ. Although similar, zzzzzzzzzz can only be considered a knock-off product of the more popular ZZZZZZZZZ. For further clarification refer to K-Tel and StarFrit websites. You may also wish to check out Kijiji as I have a lower case rolex for sale.

Great to have these future leaders come to Cambridge…. It was a GREAT turn out. Many thanks for the invite to Argyle Arms for a drink and wings with the other members.
