Coquette’s 1979 conception has come a long way, in physical and international growth, and also in its’ magnetic, modern attitude. “We have gone from ‘Male Fantasy’ to ‘Female Empowerment,’” explains Cindy Cipriano, Coquettes Creative Director who has now been employed with Coquette for over 16- years. “The strength and sexiness of our products capture the inner beauty of our clients, revealing women of all ages, shapes and sizes who are confident and in control.”
Starting off in a one sewing machine / one-bedroom apartment set up, Coquette has grown to be the largest manufacturer and wholesaler of lingerie in Canada, and is a major distributor internationally, serving over 64 countries worldwide.
The process starts off here in Cambridge at the Coquette head office, where designers combine their own industry expertise with consumer feedback and the ever changing advancements of fabric, technology and design. The majority of the manufacturing is completed overseas, and from that point shipping direct to stores internationally, as well as to the highly efficient Cambridge & Los Angeles Distribution Warehouses.
Coquette sells Business-to-Business (B2B), has been published in countless magazines and newspaper articles, and every once in a while can be spotted on film and television; in recent years Coquette outfits have been seen multiple times on the HBO smash hit True Blood and on the big screen in Bruno.
In September of this year, it was announced that Coquette had won the Lingerie Manufacturer of the Year award from STOREROTICA adding to an already impressive list of a variety of awards won over the years, and from the look of this years` collection, I would think there are more awards in store.
“We are continually improving our lines, this year focusing on the fine details of our lingerie,” explains Cipriano as she shows me the beautiful and voluptuous catalogue, “We have carefully added delicate embellishments and luxurious lace to all our collections.“ Which include the Main, Masquerade, Darque, Spring/Summer 2013 and Holiday 2013 Collections.
Propelled partially by the recent success of the E.L. James novel, 50 Shades of Grey, Coquette is providing confirmation to women it is okay to be naughty and nice; and being naughty doesn`t have to be anything that is loud or beneath society`s standard of acceptable of modern day decorum. In fact, `Beautiful lingerie is the one secret you have underneath that strengthens confidence at any given point in the day“ discloses Cipriano.
As well as the classy romantic catalogue, Coquette also offers lingerie that is geared to those bold women who shine in the risqué and also is continuing to grow it`s Masquerade line; an exquisite collection geared towards those who enjoy getting a little more out of their lingerie. Coquette will be at both the HIA (Halloween Industry Association) Show in New York at the beginning of December, and at the Halloween & Party Expo in the middle of January next year, bringing our Canadian designs to the front line yet again, to show we are leaders in local and international markets alike.
Whatever your personal style, romantic, risqué, playful or all of the above, the next time you take a moment to feel beautiful and confident in fabulous lingerie, remember it was created right here in Cambridge – another very sexy hidden gem we are most proud of!
