Wicked excitement is building in the artistic community for the upcoming 4th Annual Street Dreams. Cambridge’s Spun Turtle Productions will be hosting this year’s colourful gathering at Club Abstract, in Kitchener, where local artists will be joined by other top creative talent coming from as far away as Brooklyn, New York.
Street Dreams is a 2-day event that will run July 26-27. Friday kicks off the event bright and early outside Club Abstract where the group of street artists will collaboratively paint the back and side walls with thought provoking and imaginative art, and will continue until sunset. And make no mistake, this is art!
Anyone can spray paint something on a wall or canvas, it doesn’t make it art. Street Artists are people who put a great deal of thought into their work; colour, depth, message, and shape to the painting, be it person, place, thing or word. They also take into consideration canvas type and equipment; there are as many different types of nozzles for spray cans as there are brushes!
Well-known local street artist and Spun Turtle Production co-owner Woody Woodfield, talks about the beauty of street art, “Graffiti art is everywhere, but lives within its own struggle. It exists within every city, on buildings, art walls and freight trains… A contribution of colour, ideas, feelings and images shared by many, which I support whole heartedly… and feel privileged to be part of.”
Saturdays’ portion of the event continues inside Club Abstract from 6:00pm until midnight, with over a dozen painters turning their attention from the building walls to beautiful ladies and will finish off the day showing their versatility with Graffiti on Girls. Some of the region’s best looking ladies will bare their tops (and some will be sporting bikini tops) and will become living and moving canvases for the artists to paint.
Club Abstract is an ideal place for the event; it is central to our local painters and the clientele is most appreciative of the art. Crystal Jarvis who co-owns Spun Turtle Productions with Woody Woodfield, speaks highly of Club Abstract and its generous owner; “Mike has been an incredible support for this event, we are thrilled that he has invited us back this year to host the event at Club Abstract.”
As well as the painters and the ladies, who will be all throughout the Club, there will also be a gallery of the Artists work on display, burlesque dancers and DJs who will provide the musical entertainment for the night. Music by Darvin Silva & DJ T-SHIRT, both from New York will be bring with them a slew of urban music that will complement the atmosphere perfectly.
COL from WALLNUTS & SKI from UR New York are two of the featured artists that will be participating in Street Dreams 2013; they are travelling from New York to spend the weekend here, sharing their gifts with those of us who can’t make it down to Brooklyn in the near future.
Street Dreams will also be showcasing some of our home grown talent; Woody Woodfield (Spun Turtle Productions), Ean Kools (Underground Studio), WHOS and David Hoover plus many more from the tri city area.
Street Dream tickets are $10 in advance at Spun Turtle, $15 at the door. Visit Spun Turtle in person for more information or call Crystal Jarvis on her cell at 226-218-4203.
