editors note: This is one of several cartoons John for the print version of the post “How’s that for nostalgia.”
I miss those old TV’s. My Dad bought an a Brand New Zenith TV around 1972 and it survived intact with no problems until about 1998 when a color tube finally blew and i got rid of it. We are lucky if they last 5 years now!
Because my family is Mennonite, TV’s used to be considered evil.
That changed when the moon landing was about to happen. My father decided he wanted to see it on TV, so he went out to rent a set for the weekend. Alas, the rental sets were all rented out.
The TV salesman decided he would rent my father one of the used sets he had for sale – I think $7 for the weekend.
My father got as hooked on TV as the rest of us did, went to the TV store and told him he wasn’t returning the set. How much? I think it was $25.
Thank you Lucy!
