About the topic:
Discover the unique prairies and savannas on the Galt and Paris moraine. Such areas have been brushed out, burned, and replanted over recent decades.
The presentation will emphasise Waynco’s gravel pit properties south of Cambridge (Galt) along Hwy 24 and within the Branchton swamp. Our speakers’ involvement with this restoration effort will be highlighted, and other projects in the region will also be mentioned.
As roughly 75% of species at risk in SW Ontario are associated with prairie and savanna, this work is significant in preserving these precious habitats and their seriously declining species.
WRN has supported these restoration and management efforts by funding prescribed burns, and has presented Waynco with the club’s conservation award.
***Watch the WRN calendar in August/September 2015, for field trip opportunities to see the amazing transformation resulting from the efforts spearheaded our presenter foursome and others.***Tags: August September, Cambridge Galt, Dutton Drive, Graham Buck, KWFN, Larry Lamb, Meeting Details, Native Plant Nuts, Natural Resource Solutions, Nith River Native, Paris, Pat Deacon, Wayne Buck, Wing Rotary Centre, work, WRN
