This week one of my long time clients sent me some photos. Here is a secret, I am a huge fan of Downton Abbey. There my sinful secret is out there for all to see. I cannot tell you how thrilled I was that Wayne thought to share his photos with me.
The pictures were of Highclere Castle, a Jacobethan country house that is the home of The Earl and Countess of Carnarvan. It is located in Hampshire England about 4 miles from Newbury. It rests on 5,000 acres. Unlike the time period that Downton Abbey reflects this is a working estate.
The Earl spends all day and most evenings managing the estate. It is his wish to restore Highclere to it’s former glory. It seems he is doing a splendid job.

Another client was returning to her home in Galicia, in northern Spain. She was thoughtful enough to send me a post card of Santiago de Compostela the capital of Galicia. I immediately fell in love.
For those that are familiar with The way of St James, or El Camino de Santiago Compostela pilgrimage. This is where it ends, this is where you get your passport stamped for the final leg of the almost 800 kilometer walk. The walk starts in Saint-Jean-Pied -de-Port on the French side of the Pyrenees. You make your way guided by sea shells making the path. It truly is a pilgrimage.
Emilio Esteves made a film with his famous father called The Way, I suggest you see it, you too may find that thread of wonder lust that runs through all of us. When people walk El Camino, they say they are changed forever. Buen Camino!

So why brings these things up? My point is this, we see something, or hear something, or watch something. It sticks with us. Maybe your a Blue Jays fan and spring training in Florida is your thing. Maybe your great aunt Caterina has spoiled you with stories of her tiny village in Tuscany.
Creating word pictures that made your imagination soar. Perhaps the first time you saw a picture of a Koala and someone explained it really wasn’t a bear made you understand that there is a world downunder.
This are why we travel. We want to see, hear and taste the world. We want to spend hours planning each step, each moment dreaming of what we will see.
Not a bad thing to dream about. Not bad at all.
